About Sofia Boutique Hotel

HOTEL INFO

Tucked down a medieval street just behind the historic harbour at Kyrenia, the newly renovated Sofia Hotel is a little oasis of comfort and calm! With just nine rooms, and a maximum of 20 guests, this Kyrenia hotel is a little gem to enjoy for a short break or a relaxing week’s holiday.

Hotel Info:

Walking down towards the arched front door of the Sofia Boutique Hotel is like stepping back in time. Lave the bustle of modern Kyrenia behind and enjoy the cool, quiet atmosphere of this newly restored and attractive hotel. Converted from a medieval inn and retaining the ancient walls, this charming hotel centres on a sun-filled central courtyard complete with its own swimming pool. Step inside, and it’s an oasis of calm for a maximum of 20 guests. Step back outside the door, and you’re only 2 minutes’ walk from the bars, restaurants and coffee shops of the old harbour area.

Bright bedrooms blend historic and modern

The Sofia Boutique Hotel really is a little gem, effortlessly combining modern comforts and historic charm. The nine rooms at the Sofia Hotel are decorated in traditional style with warm colours, rich fabrics, and handmade furniture created in native Cypriot wood. Each room is individually styled, and lit by the sunlight flooding in through large picture windows, reflecting off neatly-positioned mirrors. The history of the building is reflected in partially exposed “brickwork”, complemented by high ceilings, exposed beams and restored old doors. Mod cons include double gazing (so the rooms are really quiet), air conditioning, TV and ensuite bathrooms with showers. Some rooms have balconies with mountain views.

Delicious and healthy food all day

The Sofia Hotel’s chef believes that a great holiday is based on a balanced and healthy diet. Enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast every morning (Turkish, English or French style - your choice), more than sufficient to fuel you through a morning of sightseeing or activities. At lunch or dinner, choose from a range of European dishes, many with an Italian flavour, created with fresh produce delivered daily to the hotel from local North Cyprus suppliers. Snacks are available poolside during the day, and you can also order ‘take-out’ food (a packed snack or lunch) for a longer day out exploring Northern Cyprus!

Charming central courtyard swimming pool

The inner courtyard of the hotel is a delightful, enclosed space with a pretty blue-tiled swimming pool that’s ideal for a cooling dip, yet just long enough for a short swim as well. Descend the elegant stone staircase from the bedrooms on the upper storey to relax in the sun (or shade, depending on the time of day. Then wander through to the cool and elegant lobby, with its well-stocked little bar.

Live entertainment

The hotel stages regular music nights with live entertainment from local bands and acts, on its own mini poolside stage. With only 20 guests capacity at the hotel, plus locals, it can feel like your own private concert, staged just for you!

Kyrenia on your doorstep

The famous sights of Kyrenia are right on your doorstep at the Sofia Boutique Hotel. Wander down to the  rgani for morning coffee and a slice of baklava, and watch the fishing boats bobbing in the shelter of this pretty curved  rgani. Climb the battlements of Kyrenia Castle, then shop in the medieval streets, before returning to the Sofia Boutique Hotel swimming pool for a cooling dip.

At night, the bars, rooftop restaurants and nightlife of Kyrenia beckon, and the hotel staff will be happy to  rganize a taxi to other, out of town restaurants that most tourists never find.

"Ideal Base"

I have stayed at this Hotel before and to be honest was a little tired in places , the new owner has taken care of that , rooms are spacious and comfortable, a great location a few minutes walk from both the high street and old harbour, breakfast is standard Turkish fare, for other meals it is surrounded by restaurants , downside is no sea view (at least from the room that we stayed in), plus side is the...

pool(mostly in shade so not like a warm bath ), Will certainly return.

"Quirky cool"

Somewhere a little bit different we found through gonorthcyprus and stayed with for a short break. We went mainly for the location, which is right in the heart of town and so a great spot from which to explore. The hotel itself is pretty unique with hubcaps and all sorts of car-related bits and bobs on the walls, definitely quirky. The staff are really friendly and helpful - all of them, and the manager spoke...

to us directly on arrival and when we left, which shows commitment to customer service. The food was pretty good, especially in the evenings. Just be aware that there is a mosque nearby and the prayer calls can be disturbing in the early hours if you're a light sleeper. The harbour is just a moment or two away and there's plenty to do in the area, with all the shops and restaurants nearby. A good value trip.

"Very basic but good value"

If you don't mind going back to basics, this is the hotel for you. I booked a break here through gonorthcyprus, mainly for the location, but also because the price was too good to pass up. The hotel is situated right in the middle of things, which makes it an excellent base for getting around Kyrenia's main sights. It's quite an old-fashioned establishment but that didn't really bother me - the room was clean...

and functional, the bathroom needed a bit of TLC but that's about I could suggest for improvements. The staff are very friendly and breakfast was good and filling every morning. It's quite literally a minute's walk to the harbour and many of the other main attractions in the city. If you're a light sleeper I'd advise asking for a room that doesn't face the mosque to the east, as the call to prayer in the early morning may disturb you. Overall very pleased with the price and value I received.
